And I think the developer's intentions were good, but after creating the base story of the game there came the harsh reality that this is a GAME. If this were a movie it would probably be very good, but like another high profile indie game, We Happy Few, this game doesn't deliver in the gameplay department. It has wonderful visuals (in the cutscenes at least), a promising scenario, and terribly boring gameplay. You get a sinking feeling when the game lets you out of the first room into what appears to be a hedge maze in the dark. Then you read the 'Discussions' forum on Steam and see that the developer claims the single-player is 6-8 hours long, but PROCEDURALLY GENERATED so it's got some replay value, and will differ from person to person. I can't think of too many games that do procedurally generated levels well, but either way this game is definitely NOT one of them. You go rambling around the hedge maze finding generic items. I imagine after I finish the 1st maze I'll get a cutscene of the woman's life, and then I'll get thrust into another hedge maze. Rinse and repeat until the game is finished. I'm not sticking around to find out though -- returned.. Played through and found this game pretty interesting. First time playing a noir game, so maybe that is why it has grabbed my attention. First off, the atmosphere is pretty creepy, so i found that as a huge plus. It is a maze in every Chapter, and it is based around being chased by a Doll and mannequins. But after every feat accomplished, there is a new rut in the road such as the mannequins chasing you more, the mannequins causing effects on the character, and a few other aspects which i found unique. When you die, you lose everything and can find your body once you restarted to collect your memories, or just continue to play. So many things to collect in the chapters and the movie editor at the end of each chapter makes you want to collect as much as possible. No bugs that are game changing so far in single player for me. I haven't unlocked a lot of abilities, but i think the ones i have unlocked are amazing and all have their specific use. The only downside i have found is multiplayer. I have tried three times to try and play it, but have failed to connect to a server and play. Of course, the game tells you that part is still in beta, so i am not sweating it to much.People will complain about any new game that has a setup where every chapter is pretty much the same, just with a different overlay. And yes, you pretty much do the same thing in every chapter. But what makes it really shine is the story of the characters, the creepy atmosphere, how nothing stays the same after completing tasks, and just the different movies and the such you can collect. I have found this game very fun thus far. Call me easily pleased, but i am very happy with this game so far.. VIDEO REVIEW HERE : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f5PNDjPeMs&feature=youtu.beIn Dollhouse we are introduced to Marie. After the lost of her memory we find ourselves in this other realm with deadly mannequins and doll like pursers. We must piece together the past to find out what happened to her niece and figure out who exactly is Marie. One of the many unique things about Dollhouse is that each difficultly will affect how the narrative is told, giving us some replay ability. Another interesting concept is the ability to edit a movie together, even though it’s very simple with interesting clips to work with, this is a good way for you to get experience points and get different perks as well. The game has a heavy influence in puzzles and the beautiful aesthetic gives the player an uneasy feeling while wandering the environment. Its nothing too scary but very creepy. Once you know what you need to do it’s easy to just focus on your goal which is to collect certain items like keys to unlock doors and grab film reels to piece together your memories. At this point the enemies become a bother rather then a threat. My way of dealing with enemies was whenever I had an encounter was to just wait for my flashlight to charge and destroy them, so I didn’t really have to worry about those charges I needed to collect. The levels themselves are generated differently for each player so this keeps the game fresh and enjoyable through each playthrough. Along with your set of tasks you must complete on each level there’s a couple of things you’ll need to know to explore this nightmarish maze. If you ever meet your demise, you’ll leave behind a chalk outline that will carry everything you had previously. The items you collect will also help you. Charges give you multiple chances to flash enemies, keys help you unlock doors, stocks help you use your abilities, and chalk will help you mark important locations, so you don’t get lost. You are also able to analyze your enemies which will give you experience points and a little information on how that enemy will behave. If being pursued by monsters isn’t your thing then luckily there’s a mode called Voyeur where you can just experience the puzzles and enjoy the aesthetic of the game. This can get very stale since you will be doing the same motions every level but the story itself is interesting, so I found it worth it to explore. Overall Dollhouse is a wonderful little game with enjoyable visuals and an interesting story but can become ruined by the repetitiveness of each level. Even though it may not be my cup of tea I can see this being better then other games in this cat and mouse play style. TWITTER: https://twitter.com/beardedvfxBLOG: https://beardedvfx.wordpress.com/2019/05/25/dollhouse-beard-review/. Repetitive and boring.. At a first glance Dollhouse is not really innovative in terms of game play however, the mystery revolving around Maria the main protagonist keeps the player intrigued. As a result, Dollhouse offers a creepy Noir theme horror game that has the player go around getting collectibles and keeps them on edge with the eerie atmosphere.Recommended for players that are not worried too much about action but, care about story. This game is great for simply sitting down on the PC and to take the time to appreciate it which, is relative for each individual's pace.. Worst game of 2019.
