Also an option to skip the boss intro after you have seen it once would be nice.Edit: My original review was too short.Juanito Arcade Mayhem is a cute game with wonderful graphics and simple gameplay, shoot up and move left to right. There are many games in this genre but what makes this one stand out is the wonderful artwork and fun premise, your video games have been infected and it's up to you to save them. In order to do that you will jump into a variety of different oldschool video game settings such as donkey kong, pac man, pong, and others. The game is a bit repetitive and to make up for that they have included power ups that you unlock through out the stages and a dash button. The power ups are serviceable but typical nothing special there but nothing too bad either. The only bad thing I'd have to say about them is that they seem to be random, one time I would become overwhelmed on a level and lose then start the level again getting power ups I didn't before and waltz through it no problem at all.The dash felt lacking to some degree. You can tap the dash or hold it for a longer dash. Too often it didn't help, I would dash only to run into something else. The enemy designs are cool looking. The virus like blobs infecting your game will bounce around the screen, break into smaller parts when you shoot them, and some have special effects such as leaving fire spots where they bounce. Unfortunately many of them weren't very fun to fight they began to feel repetitive or simply weren't very enjoyable leaving things on the ground that fully blocks your movement making it impossible to not take a hit if you got trapped. The Bosses on the other hand are pretty wonderful. Each area of the game has 10 levels and ends with a boss fight. Each felt unique and looked fantastic. The only problem is that if you die to a boss get ready to watch an intro repeat every single time you start it over, with no way to skip it this was frustrating. My favorite boss in the game (world 3's axe throwing men) was made much worse when I died to it around 5 times, each time I had to start over I was forced to watch a 10 second or so intro. A skip feature would be nice for that but it is a somewhat minor thing. The levels are really great in terms of aesthetic but actually playing them can vary from fairly enjoyable to fairly annoying. In Pacman world you had to eat a power pellet to be able to harm enemies and you could walk right and loop around to the left or vice versa. This entire world was pretty great. Other worlds such as Brickbreaker force you to shoot up and break tiles that are in your way so you can shoot the bad guys. This isn't too bad or anything mostly just an annoying extra step that didn't really add much to the level. Level's like pong have an annoying ball shooting back and forth that is somewhat hard to keep track of and impossible to interact with leading to a few hits that feel undeserved. In the end this genre of game is by nature a little simple and can't hold my attention for very long. The randomness\/basicness of the power ups and lackluster regular enemies makes replaying levels for high scores or fun feel a little underwhelming. To it's credit there is a lot of content here for the 10 dollar price tag and if you can grab it on sale even better.Overall I'd give it 5\/10 lackluster gameplay with fantastic art and a fun premise.. If Bubble Trouble and Cuphead had a child...Fun and satisfying game. Not that the game is lacking, but I would be happy if they would add more levels and power ups!. A well crafted arcade game with great soundtrack and carefully animated cartoon graphics. Nice progression loaded with lots of references and homages to classic arcade games, movies and more.. This is an amazing game. It's not that easy but that's actually great, it's so fun that it keep me trying to pass the levels. The story and the references from old games are wonderful. And I love the animation! One of the best indie videogames I've played lately. Totally recommended!. Might look a bit generic at first but it has great animation and some solid classic arcade gameplay mechanics.. If Bubble Trouble and Cuphead had a child...Fun and satisfying game. Not that the game is lacking, but I would be happy if they would add more levels and power ups!
